Penzance Is a Fantastic Part of the South West To Visit.

The Nearest town to Land's End is Penzance which is sheltered by Mounts Bay.

'Pen Sans' as Penzance was first called in the traditional Cornish language, translates as Holy Headland due to the original chapel near to the harbour. Penzance and surrounding area were known centuries ago as being a popular hangout for pirates. Penzance itself has a deep heritage, going back centuries and the evidence of its bygone past is clearly evident to this day. There are firm planning rules in place to assist in the conservation of its character.

Penzance has developed into a delightful artistic place with a great vibe. Receiving its first Royal Charter in 1512 assisted its growth Penzance is hugely popular with a wide range of visitors and currently relies on tourism as its primary source of income.

It is uncomplicated to reach Penzance by road, despite the fact that it is right in the far corner of the UK. Also there are numerous direct coach and railway links to the town.

Penzance is the ideal base for discovering Cornwall. The area has one of the warmest climates in the United Kingdom thanks to the warm Atlantic Gulf Stream which provides a comfortable, temperate climate during the whole year and promotes the early bloom of spring flowers.

Whilst Queen Victoria was is power many tropical seeds and plants were introduced to this region. With its distinctly Mediterranean vibe, due to the many tropical plants and trees this place oozes love and romance.

The Golowan Festival held every year in June and is a very busy month for Penzance. This Festival is based around an ancient tradition that celebrates the arrival of Midsummer. At this fantastic event you will enjoy live music, art and a variety of parades and be thoroughly entertained for ten whole days. And if all of that is not enough there is also a traditional fair with rides, huge fires and firework displays to entertain you. With colour everywhere you look from brightly coloured banners to fresh flowers, Penzance comes alive.

Additionally the Newlyn Fish Festival is held every year on the last Monday of August. This festival celebrates Newlyn's heritage of fishing which has been an essential part of Cornish life which has helped Penzance become the prosperous town that it is today. At the festival the harbour is full to the brim with a range of boats, at the market you can see all of the typical locally caught fish. Numerous stalls are there and also entertainment.

Penzance caters well for individuals and families who will find endless choices of eating and shopping facilities. The rural area around Penzance has been lived in for thousands of years providing history enthusiasts the opportunity to lose themselves visiting one of the many ancient monuments that still remain.

There are many art studio's and galleries in the area due to Penzance having the largest concentration of artists in the UK besides London. The Art Gallery at Penlee Park houses work by several famous artists such as Stanhope Forbes along with work by students from the local Newlyn School. The nearby town of St Ives also offers world class galleries such as the Tate, the Barbra Hepworth Museum and the Leach Pottery.
